This watercolor art kit for kids is your “we need art today, but I have zero energy to prep” solution. Exploring Watercolors is a screen-free Mini Crate designed for ages 7–10 that helps kids experiment with real watercolor tools, learn simple techniques, and build creative confidence—without worrying about getting it “right.”

The heart of this crate is exploration: sprayers, liquid watercolors, brushes, watercolor pencils, and fun diffusing shapes that make color movement feel like magic. Kids can start simple (spray-and-watch) and level up to layered scenes, silhouettes, and “mood paintings” as they get more comfortable. The included activity document gives a big menu of ideas, including a simple starting point for mixing liquid watercolors (about 1:1 watercolor to water), plus prompts like drip & drop painting, hidden message reveal, and watercolor galaxy experiments.

And because a good art day often starts with a good story, you’re also getting an inspiring book collection that nudges kids to create bravely (even when it’s “ish”). Everything needed for the planned activities is prepped, included, and labeled so parents can pull items out easily when ready to create. No store trips. No supply scrambling. Just add water, clear a little table space, and let the masterpiece chaos commence.

Additional Information: Items may vary based on availability. Crates contain products not manufactured by the seller and may include small parts. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Contents are not for consumption.

🎯 What's inside your crate:

  • The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds
  • Ish by Peter H. Reynolds
  • Sky Color by Peter H. Reynolds
  • Watercolor Paper Pad by Creatology™ (9" x 12", 40 sheets): sturdy, kid-friendly watercolor paper for practicing washes, layers, and techniques
  • Colorations® Paraben-Free Liquid Watercolor™ Paint (Rainbow Pack, 4 oz, set of 6): vibrant liquid watercolor for mixing, dripping, spraying, and layering
  • Colorations® E-Z Pull Extra Large Clear Trigger Sprayers (set of 6): sprayers for misting, gradients, and “rainstorm” effects
  • Colorations® Round Paint Brushes (4 assorted sizes): practice thick/thin lines and brush control
  • Liquid Watercolor™ 100 Paper Super Shapes (5 designs): color-diffusing shapes for movement, blending, and shape collage art
  • Faber-Castell Grip Watercolor EcoPencils (12 watercolor pencils + brush): draw first, then activate with water for instant watercolor effects
  • Included activity document: a menu of 25+ watercolor prompts, techniques, and art challenges (from beginner to “I’m ready for a galaxy painting”)

Recommended age: 7-10

  • Q: Is this truly open-and-go, or am I still hunting down supplies?
A: It’s open-and-go. The crate includes the watercolor tools, paper, and books, and everything is organized so you can pull items out easily when you’re ready. You’ll just need water (and a spot to paint).
  • Q: My kid is a beginner. Will this be too hard?
A: Nope. The included activity document starts with simple “play with color” ideas (spray, drip, mix) and then offers optional technique challenges as confidence grows.
  • Q: What’s the best way to mix the liquid watercolors?
A: There isn’t one perfect method. A great starting point is about 1 part watercolor to 1 part water (1:1), then adjust for bolder or softer color.
  • Q: Are these paints safe for kids?
A: The liquid watercolors in this crate are Colorations® paraben-free liquid watercolors, designed for kids’ art use.
  • Q: How many activities are included?
A: You’ll have 25+ idea prompts and challenges in the included document, plus endless variations once kids start inventing their own experiments.
  • Q: Can siblings share one crate?
A: Yes—especially for the tools and technique prompts. If you have multiple kids painting at once, you may want extra paper so everyone can work at the same time.
