If your child is in that stage where they're pointing at letters everywhere — cereal boxes, street signs, the back of the shampoo bottle — the MAGNA-TILES microMAGS Learn Letters 56 Piece Set makes that curiosity hands-on. And way more fun than flashcards.

These are 1.5" x 1.5" microMAGS tiles designed for letter recognition, phonics, and word building through real play. Small enough to use anywhere, magnetic enough to stick to the fridge, the cookie sheet, or the side of a metal toy bin — and open-ended enough to grow with your child from first letters all the way to early spelling.

What's included: 56 microMAGS letter tiles, color-coded for instant pattern recognition. Vowels are orange. Consonants are green. That one visual cue does a lot of heavy lifting — kids can spot the difference at a glance, which means less guesswork and more actual word-building from the start.

Why it's great: Letter learning sticks when kids are moving things with their hands. This set turns phonics practice into a building activity — kids arrange tiles, swap letters, test combinations, and discover what works. They can practice letter sounds, build CVC words, experiment with blends, and start early spelling without sitting at a table with a worksheet. Because the tiles are magnetic, they work on vertical surfaces too, which changes the whole dynamic of the activity (standing and building is a different kind of focus than sitting and writing). And because it's open-ended, there's no "done" — kids level up naturally as their reading skills grow.

Who it's perfect for: Ages 3+ and ideal for early readers, kids working on phonics, and homeschool families who want a hands-on literacy center that doesn't require prep. It's also a strong complement to any structured reading program — use the tiles to reinforce the sounds and patterns your child is already learning. Works beautifully alongside other MAGNA-TILES sets: kids can build a structure with their standard tiles, then label it with the letter tiles. Literacy and STEM in the same session, no planning required.

Curriculum connections: Supports letter recognition, phonemic awareness, CVC word building, consonant blends, and early spelling — all aligned with CCSS ELA foundational skills for kindergarten and first grade. Also supports fine motor development through tile manipulation and spatial reasoning through arrangement and pattern-making.

Additional Information: This set contains products not manufactured by the seller. Please be advised that crates may contain small parts that may not be suitable for children under 3 years. Do not consume crate contents.

Educational Benefits

Common Core ELA (early literacy skill alignment)
These tiles support foundational reading skills commonly emphasized in Kindergarten and Grade 1:

  • Print Concepts & Alphabet Knowledge: identifying letters and distinguishing categories (vowels vs consonants)
  • Phonics & Word Recognition: connecting letters to sounds and building simple words through hands-on spelling practice
  • Speaking & Listening: kids naturally practice saying sounds aloud, blending, and “reading” the words they build (great for quick oral practice)

NGSS (science/engineering practice connections)
While this is a literacy tool, it supports NGSS-style thinking skills through building and problem-solving:

  • Science & Engineering PracticesDeveloping and using models—kids use physical letter tiles to model word-building and sound blending
  • Engineering Design habits (K–2 ETS)Planning, testing, and improving—build a word, check it, fix it, try another (a very real design loop for early learners)
